Viking Lotto (known in Denmark as Onsdags Lotto, "Wednesday Lotto", Víkingalottó in Iceland) is a cooperation between the national lotteries in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Viking Lotto started in 1993 and was the first of its kind in Europe.

Draws are held every Wednesday evening and they take place at Norsk Tipping in Hamar. Cost per combination is NOK 5 (€0.70) in Norway and similar cost in the other member countries. The first prize is common and is financed by a certain Euro amount for each combination played. The lower prizes are national and locally decided. This arrangement is different from Euromillions where all prize categories are common.

The issue is to select six numbers which can be any integer from 1 to 48, called a combination. During the draw, six main and two additional numbers are drawn from the source of 48 numbers. The first prize is won with six correct numbers and the remaining prizes are decided on.
  • more about Viking Lotto

  • The Viking Lotto, Europe’s oldest multi-national lottery, is drawn every Wednesday and you can buy official tickets by selecting six numbers ranging 1 through 48. During the draw, six main and two additional numbers are drawn from the same source of 48 numbers. The jackpot is won with six correct numbers. The additional numbers are counted towards the secondary prize only. One of the most recent secondary prizes for matching 5 main numbers plus 1 bonus number was €13,679!
Players can choose to play 6, 8, and 10 line entries or select a systematic form which produces all possible entry combinations of 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11 numbers and increases the chances of winning a prize. What is the Lucky Number Feature in Viking Lotto?
The lucky number is an additional feature that can increase the Viking Lotto jackpot substantially. It can even earn the jackpot winner millions, like in June 2016 when the lucky number addition grew to over €30 million! Playing the lucky number doesn’t require any additional measures. Players are automatically entered into the additional lucky number drawing.
The lucky number is drawn first from the usual range of numbers 1-48. Then the lucky number is thrown back in to the till with the other numbers and the six main numbers are drawn. If one of the six main numbers drawn is also that same lucky number, then you win the lucky number jackpot addition. If the lucky number is not drawn, the lucky number addition to the jackpot rolls over to the next draw, even if the regular jackpot is won.

How to Win Viking Lotto’s Top Prize
In order to win the first prize and collect the Viking Lotto jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn in the 1 to 48 range. Don’t forget about the lucky number feature. If you match all six numbers and if that lucky number is drawn as well, you stand to make a small fortune from the Viking Lotto. If you match one of the bonus balls and five of the regular numbers drawn, you will be entitled to the second prize. The Viking Lotto’s awesome odds make it very possible to win in the secondary prize divisions making 1 in about 57 players a winner!
Most Viking Lotto jackpots are valued between €480,000 and €2.4 million, due to the lottery’s reasonable rollover rule which adds unclaimed jackpot prizes to the prize funds of the next draw. The record jackpot for a Viking Lottery ticket purchased in Denmark was €6 Million and was claimed in August of 2005. It is the largest first prize for the Viking Lotto to date.
